Department Chair, Dr. Roger Cheng, hosts Q & A panel with industry experts

On May 6th, the IRRF hosted its first annual Research Symposium at the University of Alberta. The free one-day event offered participants an in-depth look at the IRRF and its activities. Researchers treated participants from across Canada to presentations highlighting the innovative work done at the facility, promoting awareness of the IRRF’s activities and opening discussion for current and future work in the area of pavement engineering. In addition to this, participants were also given a special address from keynote speaker Dr. Ralph Haas, a world-renowned figure considered a leading expert in civil engineering. To follow up these highly-informative and engaging sessions, participants were given the chance to explore topics further in a Q & A panel discussion with a committee of industry experts, IRRF partners, and IRRF researchers.

Following a full day of presentations and discussion, participants were then given the chance to explore the IRRF’s laboratory facilities, researchers’ posters and a selection to IRRF research equipment and test samples.

As participants filed out of the event, organizers were met with numerous compliments and interest in the IRRF’s work and future plans. The success of its first Research Symposium has prompted the IRRF to look forward to next year and plan for an even larger event in 2015.
